Road Woes Continue for Valkyries

FRANKLIN SPRINGS, Ga. – The Converse University volleyball team fell in straight sets 25-18, 25-16, 25-17 to Emmanuel College on Tuesday evening inside the Shaw Athletic Center.

Tuesday nights match marked the final time Converse (4-20, 4-11 CC) will travel away from the Weisiger Center this season. The Valkyries are an even 3-3 in home games this season but they hold a combined 1-17 record in road games and neutral site contests this season.

In the opening set of action, the Valkyries fell down in a 9-3 hole against the Lions. Trailing 14-6 midway through the first frame the Valkyries attempted a small comeback to gain momentum. It seemed to work as they went on an 8-4 run to pull within a quartet of points against Emmanuel. The Valkyries were unable to hold onto the momentum as they fell 25-18 in the first set.

In the second set, the Valkyries once again found themselves digging out of an early hole as the Lions raced out to an 8-3 advantage. Moments later the Valkyries found themselves down 18-9 to the Lions. A small rally by Converse was not enough in the second stanza as Emmanuel took a 2-0 lead going into the third set.

The Valkyries appeared to be coming alive in the third set as they raced out to a 4-1 advantage over Emmanuel. Following a small run by the Lions to the two squads went point-for-point until Converse held a 10-9 edge over Emmanuel. Then the Lions broke the hearts of the Valkyries with a 7-0 run and took a 16-10 advantage. The Valkyries were unable to counter the Lions late run and fell in the final set 25-17.

Jasmine Finkley led the Valkyries with eight kills in the match, Kiara Cannon and Anna Rabon both contributed seven kills in the loss. Savannah Ducote led the team with 24 assists, while Elizabeth Yohe led the team with 18 digs.
