Yohe Breaks School Record as Valkyries Fall to Emmanuel

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Senior Libero Elizabeth Yohe broke the school record for career digs on Saturday afternoon as the Converse Volleyball team fell 3-1 to Emmanuel College at the Weisiger Center.
 
In the first set of the afternoon the Valkyries raced out to a 5-1 advantage over the Lions. Emmanuel quickly countered with a 10-2 run to take an 11-7 lead over the Valkyries. Converse dug deep and battled back to within a trio of points at 16-13. Then the Converse offense got on a role and took back the lead with a 10-2 run of their own. The Valkyries won the opening set 25-21 over the Lions.
 
Emmanuel began the second set on an 8-1 run against the Valkyries. Converse responded with the help of a 6-0 run to pull the Valkyries within a point at 9-8. The two sides battled throughout the middle of the set and traded points with one another. Then the Lions went on a short run to take a 19-14 advantage over the Valkyries. Converse once again battled back and trailed 22-21 late in the period, but a 3-0 run by the Lions closed out the second set of action.
 
In the third set the two teams split the first 20-points of the set, until the Valkyries took a 12-10 advantage over the Lions. Emmanuel countered with a 4-0 run but once again the two teams ended up tied at 15-15. A few moments later and the Lions ended the set on a 10-3 run to take the momentum going into the fourth set.
 
The Valkyries and the Lions split the first 16-points of the set before the Lions took an 11-8 lead over Converse. Then Emmanuel went on a 14-4 run to end the game and take the win over the Valkyries on their home court.
 
Kiara Cannon led the team with 9 kills, Jasmine Finkley and Anna Rabon each added 8 kills in the loss. Savannah Ducote led the team with 29 assists and Elizabeth Yohe led the team with 32 digs in the match. Yohe now holds the school record for career digs with 1,632 and counting.
 
Next Up:
Converse will travel to Emmanuel this coming Tuesday, the match is set for a 7:00 p.m. start time.
