WILSON, N.C. – The Converse University women's soccer team fell 3-1 on Saturday afternoon against Barton College.
The Bulldogs did not take long to get on the scoreboard as Hailey Russell found Olivia Bronson for the first goal of the contest. Barton went on to outshoot the Valkyries 11-3 in the first half of action, Converse starting goalkeeper
Sameera Jaffery kept the Valkyries in the game with four saves in the opening half.
In the second half Hailey Russell scored in the 65
th minute to give the Bulldogs a 2-0 advantage. Then in the 79
th minute of action the Valkyries were awarded a penalty kick following a hard foul in the box. Senior
Shaylah Youngdale converted on the penalty kick opportunity and the Valkyries were on the board.
With less than 20 seconds to go in the match, Bonnie Evans found Hannah Johnson for the Bulldogs third score of the afternoon. The Valkyries were outshot 18-9 overall in the match and Barton attempted two more corner kicks than Converse.
Sophie Wang led the Valkyries offense with three total shots and two shots on target.
Ellie Gore and
Rowan Deubel each attempted a pair of shots in the game. Jaffery led the Valkyries goalies with four saves, while
Daelynn Perry added a trio of saves in the second half.

This concludes the regular season, Converse will wait to see who they will face in the Conference Carolinas Tournament this week.
