Perry is in his first year as the head basketball coach at Converse University.
Perry is the third head men’s basketball coach in program history, and comes to Converse after a successful stint as the Limestone University head basketball coach. Over the past six seasons, Perry has accumulated 52 total wins and 37 South Atlantic Conference wins for the Saints. Perry had four players (Ben Gahlert, Greg McKay, Isayah Owens, and Sirr Hughes) score 1,000 career points, and coached both Gahlert and Hughes to Second Team All-Conference selections.
Prior to his time in Gaffney, Perry coached one season at UNC Asheville and helped DeVon Baker earn Big South All-Freshman accolades. Perry was also on the NABC assistant Coaches Committee while on the UNC Asheville coaching staff.
Perry is no stranger to the Hub City as he spent nine total seasons, including one season as the head coach of the USC Upstate Spartans. While at USC Upstate, Perry helped guide the Spartans to their first-ever wins over ACC and SEC opponents in South Carolina, Virginia Tech, Georgia Tech, and Mississippi State. The Spartans reached the Atlantic Sun Championship game in 2015 and made a trio of trips to the semifinals during Perry’s tenure.
As the recruiting coordinator at USC Upstate, Perry signed Torrey Craig, the 2010 South Carolina 1A Player of the Year, 2011 ASUN Freshman of the Year, and 2012 ASUN Player of the Year. Craig is a nine-year NBA veteran and currently plays for the Boston Celtics. Perry also signed Ty Greene, the 2012 ASUN Freshman of the Year, 2015 ASUN Player of the Year, and the 2015 Lou Henson Award (top mid-major college player) winner.
Prior to USC Upstate, Perry was an assistant coach at South Carolina State for two seasons and was the Director of Basketball Operations at College of Charleston for one season. Perry began his coaching career in the Volunteer State, first as a graduate assistant at Tennessee Tech and then as an assistant coach for four seasons at Carson-Newman University.
A three-year letterman for legendary coach Bobby Cremins at Georgia Tech, Perry was a four-time All-ACC Academic Honoree and a Hope Scholarship recipient from 1997-2001. Perry earned a Bachelor’s degree in business Administration from Georgia Tech in 2001. He earned his Master’s in Education from Tennessee Tech in 2002.
