After stepping away from coaching to pursue her Master of Education in Educational, School and Counseling Psychology at the University of Missouri, Keegan Johnson, the inaugural Converse College acrobatics and tumbling coach, is returning to coach the nationally ranked Valkyries. While at Mizzou, Johnson served as the Assistant Academic Coordinator for Football and Men’s Golf, and will fill a similar role upon her return to Converse, serving as the Director of Academic Advising for Athletics.

During her previous stint at Converse, Johnson helped produce two All-American student-athletes, Breana Clarke and Tyaeme Haugabook-Lugo. Under Johnson's leadership, Clarke was also named the 2018 NCATA Freshman of the Year, while Haugabook-Lugo earned the team's first-ever individual National Champion in the open tumbling portion of the 2019 NCATA National Championships.

Johnson joined the Valkyries in 2016 as the program's first head coach and ended a remarkable two years with the team's best finish at No. 6, nationally. She led the Purple and Gold to a combined record of 9-4 during her time at the helm of the program, including a history-making win over King University in the program's first meet on February 11, 2018. The Valkyries completed the 2019 season with an overall 5-1 record, besting the previous year's four victories.

In her first year as head coach, Johnson was able to successfully recruit a team of 23 freshman athletes hailing from 13 states. During the inaugural competition season, Converse Acrobatics and Tumbling was able to accumulate wins against numerous established programs, securing their place as the first team to ever compete for a national title in its inaugural season. While at the NCATA National Championships, Converse qualified to compete in four national event finals (5-element acro, 7-element acro, Open Pyramid, and 450-Salto Toss).

Prior to leading the Valkyries, Johnson served as an assistant coach at Alderson Broaddus. While with the Battlers, she assisted in the recruiting process, scheduling and growth and development of the student-athletes.  She helped guide the team to a NCATA Quarterfinals appearance, an event National Title, as well as, an All-American selection.

As a student-athlete, Johnson was a four-year member of the Baylor acrobatics and tumbling team.  She was a two-time NCATA All-American and was a member of the 2015 NCATA Team National Championship squad.  Johnson garnered two event National Championships in 2015 and 2013.

The West Chicago, Ill. native received her bachelor's degree in Education in May of 2015 from Baylor University, where she was named to the 2014 Big 12 Commissioner's Honor Roll, Baylor Dean's List and named Scholar Athlete. Johnson is on track to complete her Master of Education in October and graduate in December 2020.Â
