Purpose
The Converse University Athletics Hall of Fame was created to recognize and honor individuals who have made exceptional contributions to the department's success throughout the University's history. Members are selected every year by the Hall of Fame Selection Committee from nominations submitted by alumni, staff, Converse Athletics Club members and friends of the University.Â
Authorization and Administration
The business and affairs of the Hall of Fame shall operate under the authority of the Department of Athletics with the consent of the president of the university. The Director of Athletics shall be the contact person regarding policies and procedures.Â
Hall of Fame Committee
The Committee shall be appointed by the Director of Athletics and the Hall of Fame Coordinator. The committee shall consist of a total of 8-10 members as follows:

1. Director of AthleticsÂ
2. Hall of Fame Coordinator
3. Director of Athletics Communication
4. Senior Woman Administrator and/or additional senior level administrators
5. Faculty Athletics Representative (or his/her designee)
6. Three former student-athletes, alumni, or coaches (These individuals that serve on the committee shall be silent committee members and remain anonymous)
NominationsÂ
- Alumni, staff, faculty, members of the Converse Athletics Club, and friends of the University may nominate in writing any eligible candidate for consideration. Nominations are open year-round and are done through our website at govalkyries.com. All nominations will remain active for three Hall of Fame cycles.Â
- Nominations for Hall of Fame will be accepted year-round but close on August 1st of each induction year.Â
- The Department of Athletics will offer a slate of no more than ten nominees for consideration. Nominations would be ranked from 1 to 10. First choice would receive 10 points, the last choice would receive 1 point. The highest 3 to 5 will be the inductees for that particular year.Â
- Voting by the Hall of Fame Committee will occur during the month of August and conclude on September 1st of each induction year.Â
Eligibility
Student-Athlete
- The character of the individual must have, while at Converse and in the time following, represented the university and the athletic program in an admirable fashion.Â
- A former student-athlete is eligible to be considered for the Converse University Athletics Hall of Fame following a waiting period of five years after his/her graduation from Converse University.Â
- The student-athlete must have completed graduation.Â
- Waiver - Extenuating circumstances may occur, resulting in a waiver of the five-year requirement or graduation. (Examples are, but not limited to, disabling accident, illness, or death).Â
- Other considerations for selection are as follows:Â
- Athletic records established by the nominee as a student-athlete.Â
- The admirable character and citizenship of the nominee as a student and thereafter.
- Other distinguished achievements of the nominee.Â
Coach
- A coach is eligible five years following their departure from Converse University either through retirement, by accepting a position with another school, or changing professions.Â
- He/She must have coached or worked for a minimum of 5 seasons for Converse.Â
- He/She must have made exceptional contributions to the tradition of excellence of the Converse athletic program.Â
- He/She must have modeled good character and citizenship before, during and after his/her employment with the University.Â
- Other factors that my influence the selection:Â
- Win-Loss Record
- Length of Coaching Career
- Concern for the welfare of the student-athletes.Â
- Outstanding achievements after leaving the University
AdministratorÂ
- An administrator is eligible five years following their departure from Converse University either through retirement, by accepting a position with another school, or changing professions.Â
- He/She must have worked for a minimum of five years for Converse.Â
- He/She must have made exceptional contributions to the tradition of excellence of the Converse athletic program.Â
- He/She must have modeled good character and citizenship before, during and after his/her employment with the University.Â
- Other Factors that may influence the selection:Â
- Length of coaching/administrative career.Â
- Significant accomplishments throughout career.
- Concern for the welfare of the student-athletes.Â
- Outstanding achievements after leaving the University. Â
Lifetime Achievement AwardÂ
- He/She must have made exceptional contributions to the tradition of excellence of the Converse athletic program.Â
- He/She must have attended Converse College/University for a minimum of two years or worked for a minimum of five years for Converse.Â
- To qualify as a recipient of this award, a graduate of Converse College/University must have made a significant impact on the industry, profession, or chosen field.Â
Induction CeremonyÂ
- A banquet will be held in the winter months of each year with the induction ceremony being the highlight of the event. Inductees will also be recognized at a home athletic event on the same date.Â
- Inductees must make every effort to be present.Â
- Inductees may have someone receive the award for them. (Illness or other extenuating circumstances.)
- If they are deceased, a family member should serve as their representative.Â
- Failure to attend or have a representative present may result in the nominee being rescheduled for the following induction ceremony.Â
Awards
The Hall of Fame shall be located in the Marsha H. Gibbs Field House. Inductees should receive a plaque and a picture of the presentation of their Hall of Fame award.Â
