YOUNG HARRIS, GA. – The Converse University volleyball team defeated Young Harris 3-0 on Saturday afternoon.
With the win the Valkyries are now 6-6 overall and 5-0 in Conference Carolinas action this season. Young Harris falls to 6-5 overall and 0-4 in Conference Carolinas play this year.
Young Harris opened up the first set on a 7-3 run against the Valkyries. Converse settled in and rallied back to tie the set at 12. The two teams went back-and-forth and were deadlocked at 17 late in the opening period. Converse then used an 8-2 run and won the opening set 25-19.
The Valkyries kept the momentum going into the second set and opened the period on a 10-3 run. Young Harris countered with a quick 5-0 run to pull with a two of the Valkyries. Converse handled business and built an 18-11 advantage. The Valkyries went on to win the second set by a final score of 25-15.
In the third set the Valkyries once again jumped out to a 10-3 lead over the Mountain Lions. Once again Young Harris countered and made it close at 13-9. Converse used a 4-0 spurt to put the set out of reach as they won the third set 25-18.
Converse finished with 52 points, 40 kills, 7 aces, 5 blocks, 39 assists and 51 digs.
Ariel Bryant led the team with 12 kills,
Alayah Robertson finished second on the team with 10 kills and
Ella Ruckman finished third on the team with 9 kills.
Alysha Arroyo led the team with four aces and Bryant finished second on the team with three aces. Arroyo also led the team with 34 assists and
Scarlett Xiong finished with 17 digs.
Ariel Bryant finished second on the team with 12 digs and posted her second straight double-double.
Next Up:
Converse will stay on the road this week and travel to Erskine on Wednesday night. The match is slated to start at 6:00 p.m.
