SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Ahead of his second season at the helm of the Converse women's basketball program, head coach
Kevin Lyons announced the signing of 10 student-athletes
"I am pleased with this incoming class of student athletes," stated Lyons regarding his 10 roster additions. "We worked hard to sign student-athletes who fit the character and talent we need to compete at the highest level. They come from great families and embody what our program is all about. These individuals add a dynamic set of skills and personalities that will elevate our program on and off the court!"
Below are Coach Lyons's thoughts regarding each player.
Sidney Blackwell: Sidney is a player who will thrive in our program. She was a high-level high school athlete and is coming to us from a Division I institution. Her IQ will separate her and allow her to be successful on both ends of the court. She has an opportunity to lead our team because of her work ethic and mentality!
Kendra Brown: Kendra has a great three-point shot and can create shots for herself. That, combined with her size, will help us in the rebounding department and increase the overall length we have on the wings. Her commitment to her craft will be a great example for our younger players.
Kamiyah Christian: Kamiyah has the ability to score at all three levels and impact a game with the ball in her hands. Bringing a local talent like her to Converse is going to elevate our program!
Clara Lachapelle: Clara is a winner. She is used to winning with her high school team and does a lot of the little things that every team needs to win games. We will utilize her versatility and size and play her at multiple positions!
Olivia McKinney: Olivia is coming to us from right down the road and adds depth to our point guard group. She is smooth on the ball and can score, especially in the mid-range. We are excited to see her grow into the college ball handler we believe she can be!
Raine Mears: Raine is an older player who has maturity and knowledge of what it takes to be a student athlete. She also adds size to our perimeter and can lead and contribute in more ways than one!
Senna Mooijekind: Senna brings international and collegiate experience with her to Converse. She is a post player who will facilitate our offense, score the basketball and anchor our defense with her IQ and shot blocking potential!
Sophia Powell: Sophia is from South Carolina and was recognized for her play, especially on the defensive side of the ball. She is a long athlete and is exactly what we need to play good defense and rebound. Sophia can also step out and hit jump shots, making her a more difficult matchup!
Akayla Richards: Akayla is another player from South Carolina who will bring energy and play-making to our team. We think she has a chance to impact our team on both ends of the floor and bring a competitive edge!
Bailey Staton: Bailey can flat-out shoot the ball. She is a 2,000-point high school scorer and will immediately help us stretch the floor on offense. We are most excited about her relentless work ethic and commitment to be the best she can be!
