FERRUM, VA. – The Converse University lacrosse team scored earlier and often on Saturday afternoon as they obliterated Ferrum 27-0.
With the win the Valkyries improve to 7-8 overall and 5-3 in Conference Carolinas action. Converse has now won three straight games dating back to last Saturday's win over Barton. Meanwhile, Ferrum drops to 3-12 overall and 1-6 in Conference Carolinas play.
Today's 27 goal outburst broke the program record for goals in a single game. The Valkyries had scored 26 goals on three different occasions, most recently against Tiffin University on March 6, 2024.
Becky Reinhard led the offense with a six goal performance,
Hailey Obenchain finished with five goals, followed by a pair of hat tricks from
Brooklyn Walker and
Zoey Jacobs.
Ally Benken,
Karter Lauer,
Megan Holleran, and
Kaitlyn Oliver each had two goals in the win.
Maia Marquez and
Ainsley Cua both added one goal each.
Jacobs led the team with seven assists on the afternoon, Obenchain finished second on the team with three assists, Lauer and Walker both had two assists and
Brooke Bartlett added one assist in the win. Obenchain led the team with seven groundballs,
Abigail Skee finished second on the team with four groundballs, while Holleran and Jacobs each had three groundballs.
Obenchain also led the team with five caused turnovers and six draw control wins.
Kayla Gooden and Holleran each had two caused turnovers. Lauer finished second on the team with five draw control wins, while both Marquez and Cua had four draw control wins each. Skee finished with four saves on the afternoon.
It did not take long for the Valkyries to get on the scoreboard as
Zoey Jacobs scored the first goal of the game less than 50 seconds into the contest. The Converse offense went on to outscore Ferrum 11-0 in the first quarter. The second quarter was not much different as the Valkyries scored another seven goals against Ferrum. In the third quarter, Converse outscored Ferrum 6-0 and they added three more in the final quarter of action.
Next Up:
The Converse lacrosse team returns home to battle Belmont Abbey on Thursday evening. The match is set to start at 6:00 p.m. at Weisiger Stadium.
