Valkyries Top Georgia College in Weekend Bout

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Converse University men's tennis team earned a 5-2 non-conference victory over Georgia College Saturday afternoon at the Sally Abney Rose Complex.

The Valkyries improved to 5-3 overall, while the Bobcats fell to 4-3.

Converse claimed the doubles point despite one match remaining unfinished. At No. 1 doubles, 
Juniors Takuma Furumaki and Ben Hyde-Smith rallied for a 7-5 win over Chase Martin and Finn O'Neill. Sophomore Lucas Walker and senior Marty Letessier followed with a 7-5 victory at No. 2 against Braxton Wright and Jakob Andergassen. The No. 3 pairing of freshmen James Hardy and Patrick Flood led 6-5 against Reid Bissell and Manoel Guimaraes when play halted.

Georgia College won two singles courts. Chase Martin defeated sophomore Mathis Blary 6-4, 7-5 at No. 1. Jakob Andergassen topped junior Manuel Roncero 6-4, 6-3 at No. 2.

The Valkyries responded strongly from the lower lineup to secure the match. Walker dominated at No. 3 with a 6-0, 6-0 shutout of Finn O'Neill. Furumaki battled back at No. 4 to defeat Braxton Wright 6-4, 5-7, 6-0 (10-6 in the third-set tiebreaker). Letessier cruised 6-2, 6-2 at No. 5 over Manoel Guimaraes, and Hardy closed out the victory with a 6-1, 6-0 win at No. 6 against Reid Bissell.

Next Up For Converse:
The Valkyries return to action on Friday, March 13, as they host the North Greenville Trailblazers at the Rose. The match is set to begin at 2:30 P.M.
