SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Converse University volleyball team picked up their fourth sweep of the season on Tuesday evening inside the Weisiger Center when they defeated Southern Wesleyan 3-0.
With the win Converse improves to 17-9 overall, 14-3 in Conference Carolinas action and 9-1 in home games this season. The Valkyries have now won six straight matches dating back to October 10
th against Shorter. Converse has now won 11 straight matches against Southern Wesleyan dating back to the 2018 season. Meanwhile, Southern Wesleyan drops to 10-11 overall and 8-9 in Conference Carolinas play.
Converse jumped out to a 7-3 advantage in the opening set and eventually built a 19-10 lead over Southern Wesleyan. The Warriors made a small comeback but the Valkyries were able to win the opening set by a final score of 25-14.
In the second set the two teams were deadlocked through the first 20 points of the set. Then Converse made the first move and went on a 9-2 run to build a 19-12 lead over the Warriors. The Valkyries took care of business in the second period and won by a final score of 25-15.
In the third period, Southern Wesleyan jumped out to an 8-4 lead and eventually built a 13-8 advantage over the Valkyries. The lead did not last long as the Valkyries used a 6-0 run to steal back the lead at 14-13. Deadlocked at 17 a few points later the Valkyries made a small run and built a 20-17 lead over Southern Wesleyan. The Valkyries overcame a late run by Southern Wesleyan as they cruised to a 25-21 third set win.
Converse finished with 51 points, 39 kills, 9 aces, 3 blocks, 33 assists and 56 digs.
Samiya Bolton led the team with 10 kills,
Alayah Robertson is second on the team with 9 kills and
Ariel Bryant is third on the team with 8 kills.
Alysha Arroyo led the team with three aces and 16 assists.
Scarlett Xiong led the team with 12 digs and was tied for second on the team with six assists.
Ariel Bryant was second on the team with nine digs and Arroyo finished third on the team with seven digs.

Converse will hit the road this weekend with trips to Chowan and Barton.
