BRISTOL, TENN. – The Converse University volleyball team defeated King University 3-1 on Friday night inside the King University Student Center.
With the win the Valkyries snap a three-match losing streak dating back to last Friday evening. Converse is now 6-4 overall and 2-2 in Conference Carolinas action. More importantly, the Valkyries improve to 2-0 in the Northwest Division standings.
The Valkyries got off to a great start opening the first period on a 9-5 run against the Tornado. King countered with a run of their own to close the gap within a point at 13-12. Converse stayed composed and finished the set on a 12-4 run.
Once again, Converse got off to a hot start and eventually held a 15-11 advantage midway through the second set. Slowly, the Tornado chipped away and stayed within striking distance of Converse. King tied the set at 20 and the two teams fought for every point the rest of the period. The Tornado won the last two points of the set to tie the match at one set each.
In the third set the two teams were deadlocked through the first 12 points of the period. Then the Valkyries awoke from their slumber and used a 7-0 run to take a commanding 13-6 advantage over the Tornado. The Valkyries continued to keep the pressure on the Tornado and cruised to a 25-17 third set victory.
In the fourth set the Valkyries fell behind early at 7-4 before rallying to tie the period up moments later. Following an 11 tie, Converse once again used a key 5-0 spurt to take a 16-11 advantage over King. Converse continued to keep their foot on the pedal and raced to a 25-16 fourth set win over King.
Converse finished with 98 points, 50 kills, 49 assists, 55 digs, 8 aces and 5 blocks.
Ella Ruckman led the Valkyries offensive attack with 12 kills on the night.
Ariel Bryant and
Samiya Bolton finished second on the team with 11 kills each. For the second time this season the duo of
Alysha Arroyo and
Jayden Johnson each had 20 assists in the win for the Valkyries.
Noemia Chiacchio led the team once again with 20 digs and
Lilli Redifer finished second on the team with 10 digs.

The Converse volleyball team will stay on the road with a trip to Lees-McRae tomorrow afternoon.
