SPARTANBURG, S.C.  – The Converse University women's tennis team (1-1) started their fall season last week as they traveled to Newberry to take on the Newberry College Wolves (1-0) on Tuesday, Sept. 9 and hosted the Montreat College Cavaliers (0-1) on Friday, Sept. 12. The Wolves bested the Valkyries 7-0 but Converse defeated Montreat 6-1.

Newberry 7, Converse 0
The Wolves, who finished the 2025 spring season ranked inside the ITA's top 50, took all three doubles matches, winning them 6-3, 6-4 and 6-2 respectively.

Senior Khushi Kharb pushed her match at No. 1 singles to three sets after exchanging 6-1 victories in the first two sets, but fell 6-3 in the final set.

Newberry won the rest of the matches in two sets.

Converse 6, Montreat 1
The Valkyries opened the match with an advantage in the doubles point as Montreat did not have enough players to field a third doubles team. Senior Laurel Maynor and freshman Camille Lacombe secured the point with a 6-1 victory at No. 2 doubles.

Likewise, the Cavaliers did not field a team at Nos. 5 or 6 singles, putting Converse up 3-0 going into singles play.

The Cavaliers took No. 1 singles, but the rest of the lineup was all Valkyries. Maynor secured a 6-3 victory in consecutive sets to win at No. 2 singles. Lacombe won 6-0 in consecutive sets at No. 3 singles and sophomore Romy Rueff also won 6-0 in consecutive sets at No. 4 singles, bringing the match to its 6-1 final score.
