Pistaccio Named CSC AcademicAll-American

AUSTIN, TEXAS – The College Sports Communicators (CSC) national office announced their annual Academic All-America Women's At-Large Teams on Tuesday afternoon, Converse University senior Field Hockey standout Catalina Pistaccio (Buenos Aires, Argentina) was named to the prestigious list.

Pistaccio becomes the first Field Hockey athlete to earn the honor at Converse, she joins fellow Argentinian native, Maria Belen Vendrell (Buenos Aires, Argentina) as the only two athletes to earn All-America At-Large Team honors in Converse history. Earlier this summer, softball standout Sydney Watson was named an Academic All-American for the second time in her career, together the trio has accumulated four All-America honors.

However, Pistaccio has the unique distinction of becoming the first athlete in the NCAA era at Converse to earn both Academic and Athletic All-America distinction. Deidre Park is the only other athlete to accomplish the feat in school history when she was named an NAIA Academic All-American (1989 & 1990) and an NAIA All-American (1990) for the Women's Basketball team.

Pistaccio was one of just five Field Hockey athletes nationwide to earn the accolade and one of just three South Atlantic Conference athletes from any at-large sport to earn the honor. Pistaccio was the only SAC field hockey athlete to earn the honor this season.

In the classroom, Pistaccio concluded her college career with a 3.76 Grade Point Average (GPA) and graduated with a degree in Business Administration. Academically, Pistaccio was a four-time National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) National Academic Squad honoree.

Athletically, Pistaccio departs Converse as the All-Time leader in points (121), goals (47), assists (27), total shots (243), shots on goal (149) and game-winning goals (12). Pistaccio was a three-time All-American on the field and a four-time First Team All-SAC selection. Pistaccio helped the Valkyries Field Hockey team to a pair of SAC Tournament Championships in her career.
