Women’s Tennis Downs Montreat on the Road

MONTREAT, N.C.  – The Converse University women's tennis team (2-4) earned their first victory of the spring season by defeating the Montreat Cavaliers (1-6) by a final score of 5-2 Sunday afternoon at Charles D. Owen High School in Black Mountain.

With only five players, Montreat conceded No. 3 doubles and No. 6 singles.

Converse won the other two doubles matches. Freshmen Romy Rueff and Tamanna Panwar won at No. 3 doubles 6-3. Juniors Khushi Kharb and Lais Martins took all 13 games to win 7-6 at No. 1 doubles. They won the tiebreaker 7-5.

With the Cavaliers only fielding a five-woman lineup, senior Rebekka Braziel received a win by default at No. 6 singles. Freshman Agustina Pieve won her first collegiate match, kicking the Valkyries off with a 6-2, 6-0 victory at No. 5 singles.

Martins won 6-3 in straight sets at No. 2 singles. Freshman Romy Rueff won at No. 4 singles to secure the match. She won 6-3, 6-0.

Next Up For Converse:
The Valkyries head back to the Palmetto State to take on Erskine in their first conference matchup of the season on Thursday, March 6. The match begins at 2 P.M. in Due West, South Carolina. The Valkyries then return home to the Rose host West Virginia Wesleyan on Friday, March 7. The match is set to begin at 3 P.M.
