Valkyries Comeback Falls Short Against Lee

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Converse lacrosse team outscored Lee in the second half on Monday afternoon, but came up just short in a 21-17 loss to the Flames.

With the loss Converse falls to 3-8 overall on the season, while Lee improves to 3-8 on the year. Hailey Obenchain led the team with 10 point performance against the Flames, the junior finished with a team high six goals and four assists. Gencie Coan and Becky Reinhard had identical stat lines of four goals and two assists in the loss. Zoey Jacobs finished with a trio of points with one goal and two assists.

Lee opened up the game on a 5-0 run against the Valkyries defense, Becky Reinhard ended the run with the Valkyries first goal of the contest at the 10:09 mark of the first period. Lee then scored three more goals to take an 8-1 lead over the Valkyries. Converse went into the second quarter trailing 9-4 to Lee.

Reinhard and Lauer scored the first two goals of the second quarter to pull the Valkyries within a trio of goals. Lee then scored the next three goals and held a 12-6 advantage over Converse with 7:36 to play in the half. The Valkyries went into the halftime break down 14-9.

At the start of the third quarter Gencie Coan and Hailey Obenchain scored the first four goals of the period. Lee then scored the next two goals, building their lead back up to 16-13. The teams then went back and forth and the Valkyries trailed 18-15 going into the final quarter of action. In the fourth quarter the Valkyries were outscored 3-2 and fell by a final score of 21-17.
