Valkyries’ Season Concludes In Conference Carolinas Championship

PEMBROKE, N.C. – A 12-point halftime lead wasn't enough for the Converse University women's basketball team (9-19, 7-13 Conference Carolinas) as they fell 64-56 to the Barton Bulldogs (14-15, 9-11 Conference Carolinas) on Sunday night at the English E. Jones Center on the campus of UNC Pembroke.

Sophomore center Tatiana Brown led Converse with 21 points. Graduate guard Jordan Brown put up 14 points in the final game of her five-year career in purple and gold. Senior guard Elisa Solé Sanchez was the final Valkyrie to score in double-digits with 11 points. Solé Sanchez led all players with 13 rebounds. Jordan Brown had the second-most rebounds in Sunday's contest with 12.

The Valkyries came out of the gate hot, shooting almost 10% better than the Bulldogs in the first quarter. Converse held the Bulldogs without a three-pointer in the first quarter. Barton also turned the ball over five times in the opening frame, allowing the Valkyries to grow the lead to as many as six points in the first ten minutes. Converse took a 17-11 lead into the second quarter.

Converse doubled their lead in the second quarter, outscoring Barton 14-8 in the period. While struggling from the field, Converse went 6-of-7 from the free throw line and made two three-pointers. Junior guard Andrea Gutierrez Ciordia scored seven of the team's 14 second-quarter points. The Valkyries took a 31-19 lead into halftime.

Barton dominated the third quarter, putting up 23 points while allowing just eight to Converse.

Down three points to start the fourth quarter, the Valkyries tallied 17 points on 43.8% shooting from the field. Unfortunately for Converse, the Bulldogs grew their lead in the fourth quarter and won 64-56.

With the loss, the Valkyries' season is over. The 2025-26 Converse Valkyries hit the court in October.
