SUMTER, S.C.  – The No. 8 seeded Converse University women's tennis team (8-13, 3-6 Conference Carolinas) competed in their first Conference Carolinas Championship since 2022, this time taking on the No. 5 seed Emmanuel Lions (10-10, 5-4 Conference Carolinas). The match came down to the wire, but the Lions prevailed 4-3 Friday morning at the Palmetto Tennis Center in Sumter.

Graduate student Tonya Glogowski-Watson and sophomore Lais Martins captured a thrilling 7-6 victory at No. 1 doubles, taking the extended tiebreaker 10-8. Sophomore Khushi Kharb and senior Natalie White rolled to a 6-0 victory at No. 2 doubles as Converse took the doubles point.

Kharb also rolled to a victory at No. 2 singles, winning 6-1, 6-3. The Valkyries' other singles victory came at No. 5 singles courtesy of Martins, who dropped just two games en route to a 6-0, 6-2 victory.

After falling in her first set, sophomore Laurel Maynor bounced back to win her second set 6-1, but ultimately fell as Emmanuel won the match 4-3.

With the loss, the Valkyries' season is now over. The Converse tennis teams will take the courts again in the fall.
