WINGATE, N.C. – The Converse University field hockey team fell 3-1 to Wingate University on Monday night at Graham Gill Field.
Converse concludes the 2024 season with an overall record of 8-9 and 6-8 in South Atlantic Conference action. Wingate moves onto the semifinals round on Friday afternoon, with an overall record of 13-5 and 10-4 in South Atlantic Conference play.
Wingate started the scoring in the first quarter, when Rylie Cordrey found Lauren Montgomery for the first goal of the game. The Bulldogs continued to pressure the Valkyries in the second period, when Cordrey found Emma George for the second goal of the match. Going into the halftime break, Wingate outshot Converse 7-4, but the Valkyries edged out the Bulldogs in corner attempts at 6-5.
Following a scoreless third quarter, the two teams remained scoreless until the final two minutes of the contest. Riley Robinson found Novy Schrijvers for the Bulldogs third goal of the match, while
Catalina Pistaccio scored the final goal of her Converse career in the final minutes of the game.
