Box Score HARTSVILLE, S.C. – The Converse University field hockey team defeated Coker 4-1 on Sunday afternoon at the Coker Athletic Field.
Converse improves to 8-7 overall this season and 6-7 in South Atlantic Conference action. Meanwhile, Coker drops to 2-9 overall and 1-9 in South Atlantic Conference play.
The Valkyries came out ready to go in the opening quarter as they outshot the Cobras 9-0. Midway through the period,
Catalina Pistaccio found Amparo Figuerora for the first goal of the match. The Valkyries continued to put the pressure on Coker as they outshot the Cobras 6-0 in the second period.
Leading 1-0 after halftime, the Valkyries gave up a goal in the third quarter to Kaiya Subur. The Valkyries offense awoke in the fourth quarter and put the game away for the Valkyries. Pistaccio and
Chelsy Bunse both picked up an assist on a
Francesca Ezcurra goal that gave the Valkyries the lead.
Moments later,
Kilee Bradeen found
Keira van Zyl for the Valkyries third goal of the match and the seniors first goal of the season. With less than a minute to go in the game, Bunse found Figueroa for the Valkyries final goal of the match.
Johanna Balks picked up the win in goal for the Valkyries and the freshman made one save on the day.

The Converse Field Hockey team will have almost a week off before traveling to Newberry next Saturday afternoon for a high noon match.
