The Series
This will be the fourth all-time meeting between Converse and Lander dating back to last season. The Valkyries went 3-0 against Lander a season ago, including a 5-0 win in the South Atlantic Conference Tournament Semifinals. This will also be the fourth consecutive matchup in Spartanburg, last season the Bearcats did not have a home venue for their field hockey team.
Converse Notes
- Converse is coming off a 2-0 weekend with wins over Mercyhurst and Slippery Rock. On Saturday afternoon, Catalina Pistaccio tied the school record for goals in a game and helped the Valkyries to a 4-2 win over the Lakers. On Sunday afternoon the Valkyries escaped Slippery Rock with a 2-1 victory in the final minutes of regulation.
- As a team, Converse has scored 8 goals this season, averaged 12.0 shots per game and holds a .667 shots on goal percentage.
- The Valkyries have 6 team assists, 10 team saves and they have attempted 18 penalty corners.
- Pistaccio leads the team or is tied for the team lead in points (10), goals (4), assists (2), shots (11), shots on goal (6) and game-winning goals (1). Nina Buyst and Brooklyn Widdess are tied for second on the team in points with four each.
- Kat Daniels had seen the most action in goal this season for Converse, the junior goalie has made a pair of starts and made 8 saves on 14 shots faced.
Lander Notes
- Lander will be playing their first game of the season on Tuesday night. Last season, the Bearcats went 9-8 overall and 6-6 in South Atlantic Conference action.
- The Bearcats in their first official season as a program made a run all the way to the South Atlantic Conference Tournament semifinals.
- Last season, the Bearcats averaged 2.12 goals per game, 13.4 shots per game and a .627 shots on goal percentage. Lander had 29 total assists, 85 saves and 104 penalty corners.
- Sophie Schmitz led the team a season ago in every offensive category, points (37), goals (16), assists (5), total shots (75), shots on goal (52) and game-winning goals (5).
- Kelsey Gibbons started 14 games in goal last season for Lander and finished with 61 saves on the season.
