Obenchain Scores Five Goals Against Crusaders in Conference Carolinas Quarterfinals

TIGERVILLE, S.C. – Freshman Hailey Obenchain scored five goals and added two assists in a 16-9 loss to North Greenville on Tuesday evening at Pepsi Stadium.

For the first time since 2019 the Valkyries made it back to the Conference Carolinas Championship tournament, unfortunately Converse will have to wait another year for their first ever postseason win. Converse concludes the season with an 8-10 overall record and a 4-6 record in Conference Carolinas play. Meanwhile, North Greenville improves to 10-6 overall and 7-2 in Conference action and moves on to the Semifinals round to face Belmont Abbey on Friday afternoon.

Dani O'Meara scored the first goal of the game for North Greenville with 13:09 to play in the opening period. Karter Lauer found Cassidy O'Neill for the equalizer with 11:39 to go in the quarter. Moments later Hailey Obenchain scored her first goal of the night and gave the Valkyries a 2-1 advantage in the first stanza of action.

The North Greenville offense started to click and they went on a 3-0 run to take a 4-2 lead over the Valkyries. Rhianna Warner found Karter Lauer with 3:02 to play and the Valkyries were back within a goal once again. A pair of Emily Zambrano goals ended the scoring for the first period and North Greenville led 6-3.

In the opening moments of the second quarter the Valkyries outscored North Greenville 3-1. The quick outburst by the Converse offense brought the Valkyries back within a goal of the Crusaders at 7-6. North Greenville scored the final two goals of the period to take a 9-6 lead into the halftime break.

The third quarter was all North Greenville as they outscored Converse 4-0 in the period. In the fourth quarter, Obenchain scored a pair of goals and Warner scored a goal of her own to lead the Valkyries in scoring for the quarter. The Crusaders ended the game on a 2-0 scoring run.
