Converse Tennis Teams Split on Senior Weekend

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Converse University men's and women's tennis teams each picked up a win on Saturday against Chowan and each picked up a loss against Barton on Sunday morning.
 
Women's Tennis
 
Converse 4 – Chowan 1
  • In doubles action the Valkyries top tandem of Tonya Glogowski-Watson and Khushi Kharb won the top doubles flight 6-2. After falling at the No. 3 doubles court, the Valkyries No. 2 doubles pairing of Natalie White and Sofia Giaraldo-Jimenez won 7-6 to give the Valkyries a 1-0 advantage.
  • In singles action, Glogowski-Watson put the Valkyries up 2-0 following a 6-3, 6-1 at the No. 1 singes court. The Valkyries went up 3-0 in the match following a straight sets win by Khushi Kharb.
  • Chowan picked up their first point of the match, following a win at the No. 3 singles flight and Lais Martins won the match for Converse with the clinching point at the No. 4 singles court.
 
Converse 0 – Barton 4
  • In doubles action the Valkyries top duo of Glogowski-Watson and Kharb once again picked up a win to give the Valkyries the early advantage against Barton. However, the Valkyries came up short at both the No. 2 and No. 3 doubles courts to give Barton the early 1-0 advantage.
  • In singles action Glogowski-Watson, Giaraldo-Jimenez and White all fell in straight sets at their respective courts to give Barton a 4-0 sweep over Converse.
  • This will conclude the 2022-2023 tennis season for Converse as they just missed out on a spot in the Conference Carolinas Championships next weekend.
 
Men's Tennis
 
Converse 4 – Chowan 0
  • In doubles action the Valkyries top doubles duo of Marty Letessier and Leopol Morel gave the Valkyries the early advantage following a 6-1 win at the top doubles court. The Valkyries No. 2 tandem of Merlin Bellet and Enzo Marcheschi clinched the doubles point with a 6-0 win over Chowan's No. 2 duo.
  • In singles action, Paul Berrouet, Marcheschi and Morel all won in straight sets against the Hawks to clinch the match at 4-0.
 
Converse 2 – Barton 4
  • In doubles action the Valkyries No. 3 pairing of Berrouet and Gregoire Legrand won 6-3 to give Converse the early advantage. A loss at the No. 2 doubles court put pressure on the Valkyries top tandem to win the doubles point for the second straight day. The Valkyries top pairing came through with a 7-6 tiebreaking win to help the Valkyries claim a 1-0 advantage in the match.
  • Barton won their first point of the match at No. 5 singles and quickly won their second point at the No. 1 singles flight. Berrouet tied the match at 2-2 following a straight sets win at the No. 3 singles court.
  • A loss at the No. 2 singles court gave Barton the lead over Converse at 3-2. The Bulldogs clinched the match with a straight sets win at the No. 4 singles court.
