Tennis Weekend Recap

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Converse University tennis programs were in action all across the Palmetto State this weekend.

The women's team played a pair of matches in Greenwood, S.C. against Lander and USC Sumter. The Valkyries went 1-1 with a 4-1 win over the Fire Ants and a 5-2 loss to the Bearcats. The Valkyries top doubles tandem of Tonya Glogowski-Watson/Khushi Kharb went 2-0 on Saturday and improves to 8-3 overall on the season. The duo has won eight straight matches dating back to the beginning of February.

In singles action, Kharb went 2-0 splitting time at the No. 1 and No. 2 singles flights and now has a team best five wins on the season. Glogowski-Watson picked up her first win of the season at the No. 1 singles flight against the Bearcats and Sofia Giaraldo-Jimenez picked up her first win of the season against USC Sumter. Rebekka Braziel, Alexandra Romero and Anna Trace also saw action against USC Sumter. Romero picked up her first win in a Converse uniform against the Fire Ants.

The men's tennis team traveled over to Greenville, S.C., to face Furman University. The Paladins were the Valkyries second Division I foe this season after the Converse fell to the Citadel earlier in the year. Furman defeated Converse 5-2, but the Valkyries top doubles pairing of Merlin Bellet/Enzo Marcheschi defeated Furman's No. 1 double team 6-4.

In singles action Leopold Morel won in straight sets 6-4, 7-6 (6-2) to improve to 8-3 overall this season. Marty Letessier won in straight sets at the No. 6 singles flight 6-2, 6-4 to earn his second win of the season for Converse.
