SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Converse University women's tennis team fell 4-3 to Augusta on Thursday afternoon at the Converse Tennis Courts.
With the loss, Converse falls to 2-4 on the season, while Augusta improves to 5-1. Converse is now 0-2 all-time against Augusta.
In doubles action the Valkyries got off to a hot start, as the No. 2 doubles pair of
Marleen Prinz/
Lais Martins won 6-4. Converse captured the doubles point when the Valkyries top duo of
Tonya Glogowski-Watson/
Khushi Kharb won 7-5 over their opponents. The Valkyries almost completed the sweep at doubles, but the third doubles court went unfinished.
Augusta tied the match at 1-1 following a straight sets win at No. 1 singles and took a 2-1 lead following a three-set win at the No. 5 singles court. Prinz gutted out a three-set win at No. 3 singles to tie the match at 2-2. A straight sets loss at the No. 4 singles position gave Augusta the lead once again, but
Luiza Estrada won in straight sets at the No. 2 singles court to tie the match at 3-3. Augusta won in straight sets at the No.6 singles court to take the victory over the Valkyries.
The Converse women's tennis team will have a few days off before hosting Limestone on Sunday afternoon at the Converse Tennis Courts.
