SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Converse University men's tennis team fell 6-1 to Augusta on Thursday afternoon at the Converse Tennis Courts.
With the loss, Converse falls to 2-4 on the season, while Augusta improves to 6-0. Converse is now 0-2 all-time against Augusta.
In doubles action the Valkyries dropped the first match 6-4, but the No. 2 tandem of

Paul Berrouet won in a tiebreaker 7-6 (7-4) to even the match at one court each. The doubles point came down to the third and final court, which the Valkyries fell late 7-5 to give the Jags the opening point of the match.
In singles action the Jags jumped out to a 3-0 start with wins at the No. 5 and No. 3 singles courts.
Merlin Bellet gave the Valkyries their first win of the day with a straight-sets win at the No. 1 singles flight. Converse fell further behind with losses at the No. 2 and No. 6 singles courts, while Berrouet forced a third set tiebreaker before losing at the No. 4 singles court.
The Converse men's tennis team will have over a week off before traveling down to Charleston to compete against The Citadel and SCAD-Savannah on March 3
rd.
