Converse Men’s Basketball Tussles With Tornado in Northwest Division Opener

The Series:
This will be the fifth all-time meeting between Converse and King dating back to the 2021-2022 basketball season. The Valkyries are 3-1 all-time against the Tornado and 2-0 inside the friendly confines of the Weisiger Center. Last time out, the Valkyries defeated King 104-91 in Bristol, Tenn.
 
Converse Notes:
  • Converse is 7-0 for the first time in program history and is coming off a regionally ranked win over Emmanuel 104-76.
  • Uzziah Dawkins led the team with 26-points, Edoardo Buffo contributed 21-points, CJ Jamison added 18-points, Joel Pullen led the bench with 15-points and Earl Burgess III rounded out the scoring with 10-points.
  • The Valkyries moved up to #4 in the latest D2 CSC Southeast Region Poll and are now receiving votes in the NABC Poll.   
  • Converse is averaging 90.0 points per game, shooting 53 percent from the field, 41 percent from beyond the arch and 76 percent from the free throw line.
  • The Valkyries are averaging 39.4 rebounds per game, 19.7 assists per game, 7.3 steals per game and 1.6 blocks per game.
  • Dawkins leads the team with 19.3 points per game, Jamison is second on the team with 16.0 points per game, Buffo is third on the team with 13.1 points per game and Pullen is fourth on the team with 10.0 points per game.
  • Jamison leads the team with 38 rebounds and 12 steals on the season, while Dawkins leads the team with 25 assists.
 
King Notes:
  • King is 2-4 overall and will be playing their first Conference Carolinas game of the season on Saturday afternoon.
  • The Tornado have not played since Tuesday, November 28th, when they defeated Emory & Henry 85-77 for their second win of the season.
  • King is averaging 76 points per game, shooting 41 percent from the field, 30 percent from three-point range and 57 percent from the free throw line.
  • The Tornado are averaging 39.8 rebounds per game, 10.7 assists per game, 11.7 steals per game and 6.5 blocks per game.
  • Mikhail Pocknett leads the team with 17.5 points per game, Jordan Akal is second on the team with 11.3 points per game and Myles McCrary is third on the team with 9.3 points per game.
  • Satchel Love leads the team with 35 total rebounds this season, Amarius Beasley leads the team with 14 assists, Eli Elston has a team best 16 steals and four different players have at least five blocked shots on the year.
