FLORENCE, S.C. – Bringing their two-game Conference Carolinas win streak to a halt, the Converse University women's basketball team (4-6, 2-2 Conference Carolinas) fell on the road to the Francis Marion Patriots (6-4, 2-1 Conference Carolinas) by a final score of 87-53.

Despite the loss, three Valkyries scored in double-digits. Redshirt senior center Sydney Wilson led Converse in scoring for the sixth time this season. She recorded 12 points and tallied eight rebounds for the second straight game. Junior guards Elisa Solé Sanchez and Sierra Jones each posted 10 points. It is the second time Jones has posted a double-digit scoring night in her three games back on the court for the Valkyries. Both juniors recorded a pair of assists while Jones posted four rebounds with Solé Sanchez halving that number.

The Valkyries got off to an early lead and had their largest lead of the game, four points, with 23 seconds remaining in the first quarter. After 10 minutes of action, the Valkyries led the Patriots by two points, 20-18.

But in the second quarter, the Patriots proved why they are the second-best scoring offense in Conference Carolinas and a top-five scoring defense in the league. After entering the second frame down two points, Francis Marion held the Valkyries to single-digits, nine points, while putting up 24 of their own. They took the lead with nine minutes to play in the second quarter and did not give it up.

After four quarters of play, Francis Marion secured the 87-53 victory, sending both teams into Division II's holiday break.

After taking a break for the holiday season, the Valkyries are back on the court on Friday, December 29 as they take on the UNC Greensboro Spartans at 7 P.M in an exhibition matchup. The Valkyries return to Division II competition on New Year's Eve against St. Augustine's in Raleigh, North Carolina at 2 P.M.
