GREENWOOD, S.C. – The Converse University volleyball team fell 3-0 to Lander University on Tuesday evening inside Horne Arena.
With the loss Converse drops to 3-12 overall this season, while Lander improves to 16-2 overall.
In the opening set Lander registered 14 kills and hit .344 for the set, while the Converse offense was held to just seven kills in the opening set. The Bearcats took the first stanza 25-15 over the Valkyries.
In the second set the Valkyries recorded a team best 9 kills in the frame against the Bearcats defense. However, Lander was still able to take the second set 25-14 behind 13 team kills and a .297 hitting percentage.
In the final set of the match both teams played their reserves towards the end of the set. The Bearcats took the final set 25-10 over Converse.
Ariel Bryant led the team with 5 kills,
Evelyn Fitz finished second on the team with 4 kill and
Tia Gripado finished third on the team with a trio of kills.
MacKenzie Schmucker led the team in assists (12) and in digs (10).
Next Up:
Converse will be back at home this weekend with matches against North Greenville and Southern Wesleyan on Friday and Saturday.
