MOUNT OLIVE, N.C. – The Converse University duo of
Bosko Bojovic and
Trey Smith combined for 50-points on Monday afternoon, but it was not enough as the Valkyries fell 90-88 to Mount Olive inside Kornegay Arena.
Converse falls to 7-11 on the road and 5-5 in Conference Carolinas play. While the Valkyries are 7-1 at home this season, they fall to 0-9 on the road this season. Smith scored a career high 25-points in the loss and tied teammates
Sigurd Lorange's record for three-pointers in a game with seven against the Trojans. Bojovic scored a career high 25-points and 21-rebounds against Mount Olive, the graduate student set a school record for rebounds in a game and posted the first 20-point, 20-rebound game in program history.
First Half Notes:
- Bojovic made the first points of the game for either side, with a free throw at the 19:32 mark of the half. In fact, Bojovic scored the first six-points of the game for Converse.
- With 17:06 to play in the period Michael Brown found Ryan Roberts for a three-pointer and Mount Olive cut the Valkyries lead to 6-3.
- The three-pointer from Roberts jump started the Trojans offense and they took an 8-6 lead with 15:44 to play.
- At the 14:35 mark of the period Bojovic scored his 10th point of the half and the Valkyries were back on top. On the Valkyries next possession down the court, Smith connected on a three-pointer becoming the first Converse player other than Bojovic to score in the game.
- For the remainder of the half the two teams went back-and-forth and it was Mount Olive who went into the halftime break up 46-43.
- Converse shot 57 percent in the first half, 41 percent from three-point range and 72 percent from the free throw line.
Second Half Notes:
- Trayvon Ferrell scored the first points of the second half with a layup at the 19:11 mark of the period.
- Bojovic scored the first field goal of the half for Converse with 18:50 to play. The basket brought the Valkyries within two of Mount Olive at 48-46.
- Uzziah Dawkins tied the game up at 57 with 15:42 to go in the half. Moments later Dawkins gave the Valkyries a one-point lead at the free throw line.
- Over the next 10 minutes of game time the two teams traded baskets and the two teams stayed within two possessions of each other. Then with five minutes remaining in the period the Trojans went on a run and took a late 86-77 lead.
- However, the Valkyries did not go down without a fight as they clawed their way back but ran out of time before they could pull off the comeback.
- Converse shot 48 percent from the field, 40 percent from three-point range and 68 percent from the free throw line.
