No. 10 Converse Opens Up Season with Road Trip To New Hampshire

The Series
This will be the Valkyries first ever trip to New Hampshire and the first ever meeting against Franklin Pierce University. Against Southern New Hampshire this will be the Valkyries second matchup and first since the 2019 season. Southern New Hampshire defeated Converse 8-0 in the first meeting at Old Spartanburg High School.
 
Converse Notes:
  • Earlier this week, the Valkyries were ranked in the Top 10 of the Preseason NFHCA Coaches Poll for the first time in program history.
  • The South Atlantic Conference coaches selected Converse as the preseason favorites to win the conference for the first in school history.
  • The Valkyries placed a league high five players on the First Team Preseason All-Conference list, Bella Pistilli, Luisa Fasold, Lotte Kanters, Catalina Pistaccio and Julia Matthijssen. Sophomore goalkeeper Kathryn Daniels was selected to the Second Team.
  • Kanters and Pistaccio both return for their sophomore seasons after tying for the team lead in goals scored (8) a season ago. Both players were also named to the Synapse.com National All-Rookie Team.
  • South Atlantic Conference Tournament MVP Luisa Fasold returns to anchor the midfield, while Matthijssen and Pistilli anchor one of the best defenses in the conference from a season ago.
  • Converse ended last season on a high note winning the South Atlantic Conference Tournament Championship for the first time in school history. On Friday the Valkyries will be looking to collect their third win in a row dating back to last season.  
 
Franklin Pierce Notes:
  • The Ravens went 3-15 overall last season and 1-13 in conference action. Franklin Pierce has lost eight straight games dating back to October 3rd of last season.
  • Last season, Franklin Pierce played seven games against Top-10 Nationally ranked opponents and the #3 team in the country on a trio of occasions.
  • Anna Beck and Christine Jarowicz return as the team leading scorers with four goals each last season. Jarowicz also tied for the team lead with four assists last season.
  • Addy Araneo returns as the Ravens primary goalkeeper, Araneo started 12 games last season and made 100 saves last season.
 
Southern New Hampshire Notes:
  • Southern New Hampshire went 6-11 overall last season and 6-8 in conference action.
  • The Penmen ended the season on three match winning streak with wins over American International, Mercy and Molloy.
  • Last season the Penmen averaged 2.06 goals per game and just over 13 shots per contest. Annemartine Christis returns as the teams leading goal scorer (9 goals) and assists leader (5). Taylor Marchman finished second on the team with 8 goals last season.
  • The Penmen will have to replace their graduate student goalie from a season ago that started every game.
