Converse Volleyball Heads To The Electric City Invitational

The Tournament:
Converse is headed to the Electric City Invite this week in Anderson, S.C. The Valkyries will face four different opponents over the course of three days. Converse will play Alabama Huntsville to begin the tournament on Thursday afternoon and will conclude against Texas A&M International on Saturday afternoon.
 
Series History:
Alabama Huntsville: This will be the second meeting between Converse University and Alabama Huntsville. The Chargers defeated the Valkyries 3-0 in 2018 during the Converse Invite.
 
Catawba: Converse and Catawba have only met at neutral site venues dating back to the 2011 season. The Catawba Indians are 2-0 all-time against the Valkyries with their last meeting coming in 2018 at the FMU/Coker Invitational.
 
Anderson: This will be just the third meeting between Converse and Anderson since the 2015 season. However, this will be the first non-neutral site edition of the series over the past decade. Anderson has won the last two meetings in the series with a pair of sweeps over the Valkyries.  
 
Texas A&M International: This will be the first ever meeting between Converse and Texas A&M International.
 
Converse Notes:
  • Converse went 1-1 this past weekend with a three-set sweep over Paine to highlight the weekend.
  • As a team, Converse is recoding 10.4 kills per set, 9.9 assists per set, 1.6 aces per set, 10.6 digs per set and 1.4 blocks per set.
  • A trio of Valkyries reached double-figure kills last weekend, Jasmine Finkley (Blythewood, S.C.) led the way with 24 kills. Anna Rabon (Little River, S.C.) produced 14 kills and Maddie Mount registered 11 kills.
  • Freshman MacKenzie Schmucker edged out graduate student Savannah Ducote (Lexington, S.C.) for total assists. Schmucker finished the weekend with 26, while Ducote produced 21 assists.
  • Ducote led the team in service aces with a trio this past weekend. Mackenzie Day (Columbia, S.C.) led the Valkyries with 21 digs and Mount produced a team high 6 blocks.
 
Alabama Huntsville Notes: 
  • The Chargers are 2-2 this season, with wins over King University and Lincoln Memorial.
  • As a team the Chargers are averaging 11.5 kills per set, 10.8 assists per set, 1.8 aces per set, 13.7 digs per set and 1.7 blocks per set.
  • Gracie McGee is leading the offense in kills this season with 31, Caroline Moyer is second on the team with 29 and Paris Morris is third on the team with 26 kills.
  • Colby Charland has a team high 71 assists, while Laekyn Bennett is second on the team with 30 assists.
  • Shayla Libby leads the team in digs (51) and service aces (5) this season. Kiara Hill has a team best 9.0 blocks this year.
 
Catawba Notes:
  • For the second straight week Catawba and Converse will be traveling to the same location. Last weekend, Catawba went 1-1 at the USC Aiken tournament with a three-set sweep over Paine College.
  • As a team Catawba is averaging 11.14 kills per set, 10.29 assists per set, 2.43 service aces per set, 17.00 digs per set and 1.43 blocks per set.
  • Ashley Johnson leads the team with 19 kills this season and Kelcie Love is second on the team with 17 kills.
  • The Catawba Indians are utilizing two setters this season, with Hayes Smith leading the team with 31 assists on the year. Dara Kane is a close second with 26 assists this season.
  • Kary Hales leads the team 25 digs and is averaging an even five digs per set this year. Raytchelle Miranda leads the team with five total blocks on the season.
 
Anderson Notes:
  • Anderson is coming off a 3-1 weekend at the 2022 UIndy Invitational. The Trojans defeated McKendree, Wayne State and Montevallo.
  • As a team the Trojans are averaging 12.60 kills per set, 12.13 assists per set, 1.40 service aces per set, 16.20 digs per set and 3.27 blocks per set.
  • Liliana Kinder leads the team with 56 kills on the season, Noelle Knutsen is second on the team with 39 kills and Tabitha Wheeler rounds out the top three with 27 kills.
  • Madison Roy leads the team with 114 assists and Jenna Long is second with 44 assists this season. Lindsay McCurley has 10 service aces this season to lead the team.
  • Alexandra Petrilli is first on the team with 71 digs and Tabitha Wheeler is second on the team with 42 digs. Jaelyn Grimm leads the team with 23 total blocks and Noelle Knutsen is second on the team with 20 total blocks.
 
Texas A&M International Notes:
  • The Dust Devils are 3-1 overall on the season and they are currently riding a three-match winning streak with wins over Emory & Henry, Northwest Nazarene and Rollins.
  • Texas A&M International is averaging 13.0 kills per set, 12.4 assists per set, 1.5 aces per set, 14.8 digs per set and 1.8 blocks per set.
  • Megan Menchaca leads the team with 58 kills, Mackenzie Catalina is close behind with 51 kills and Giulia Horetian is third on the team with 39 kills on the season.
  • Emma Lade is the primary setter on the team and has 172 assists this season. Lade is averaging 11.47 assists per set this year.
  • Defensively, Lixai Perez is leading the team with 56 digs this season. Horetian is right behind Perez with 47 digs on the year. Hannah Thompson leads the team with 16 blocks this season.
