WILSON, N.C. – The Converse University women's lacrosse team fell 18-5 to Barton on Saturday afternoon at Truist Stadium.

With the loss the Valkyries fall to 0-8 on the season and 0-3 in Conference Carolinas action. Meanwhile, Barton improves to 6-5 overall and stays perfect within conference play with a 4-0 record.

The Bulldogs scored the first goal of the game with 7:20 to play in the opening period and took a 2-0 lead moments later on an unassisted goal by Chloe Butts. With 4:17 remaining in the quarter, Haleigh McSwain connected with Rhiaana Warner for the Valkyries first goal of the game. Barton scored three more goals before the end of the first period and took a 5-1 lead going into the second period of action.

Trailing 6-1 with 11:33 to go in the second quarter, Libby Stevens found the back of the net on a woman up opportunity. Following a five-goal run by Barton, McSwain scored with 1:08 left in the half and the Valkyries trailed 11-3 going into the halftime intermission.

Coming out of the halftime break Madelyn Robinson found Cassidy O'Neill for the Valkyries first score of the period. A few moments later Warner found O'Neill for her second goal of the game, but the Valkyries trailed 14-5 going into the final quarter of action.

Notables:

• O'Neill led the team with a pair of goals, while Stevens, McSwain and Warner each picked up a goal in the loss. Warner, McSwain and Robinson all tied for the team lead with an assist each in the game. Ciriaca Petitto led the team with 10 draw controls and Kailee Reel had a team high four ground balls. Madalynn Brunner made a team high six saves in goal for the Valkyries.

Next Up:

• The Valkyries will stay on the road this week and travel to Erskine on Wednesday night. The match is set for a 6:00 p.m. start time.
