GREENVILLE, S.C. – Earlier today, Conference Carolinas released the Joby Hawn Cup fall standings, Converse University finished sixth overall in their highest ranking ever.
Out of a possible 64 points this semester the Valkyries earned 38.5 points to finish ahead of Belmont Abbey and King. The men's soccer team won both the regular season and tournament championships this season in Conference Carolinas. With the victory, the men's soccer team earned an additional two points in the standings and finished with 14-points on the season.
The women's cross-country team finished second in the Conference Carolinas championships and earned an additional point for their runner-up finish. With 13-points earned the women's cross-country team was the highest rated women's team for Converse this semester.
In the men's sports standings the Valkyries are second behind UNC Pembroke. Out of a possible 25-points the men's cross country and soccer teams earned a total of 20-points in the rankings. In the women's sports standings the Valkyries currently rank eighth overall, ahead of Barton and Francis Marion.
The Hawn Cup is named after H.C. "Joby" Hawn, who in 1962 became the first full-time Commissioner of what was then known as the Carolinas Intercollegiate Athletic Conference and now Conference Carolinas. Following his retirement from the conference in 1976, Conference Carolinas began awarding the Hawn Cup annually in his honor.
