SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Four Valkyries women's basketball players scored double digit figures in a loss to St. Augustine's University on Monday afternoon. The 71-55 loss moves Converse to 1-11 overall and 1-5 in Conference Carolinas action while the Falcons fly to 4-6 overall and 0-2 in CIAA play.
Sydney Wilson started off the shooting for the Valkyries with a two-pointer to make it a 3-2 game. The Falcons then gained a nine-point lead with just over five minutes remaining in the quarter.
Maegan Barkley,
Alisa Davenport and
Jordan Brown made up for lost ground for the Valkyries as they went into the second quarter down by just three points.
The second quarter started off slow as neither team was able to sink a bucket until seven minutes were remaining on the clock. Wilson hit a jumper followed by a Brown layup to give Converse the 16-15 lead with just over six minutes until halftime. The Falcons regained their lead to hold the 25-21 advantage at the end of the first half.
Again, Wilson started off the quarter with a jumper and
Colbie Perry followed with a three ball to bring Converse within one point of the St. Augustine lead. Wilson captured the lead for the Valkyries with eight minutes remaining in the quarter, but a Lauren Banks three-pointer would give the Falcons the lead right back. Davenport tied the game up at 30 points each with just under six and a half minutes left in the third quarter. Barkley's jumper followed by Banks' jumper would tie the game up again, this time at 32 points a team. Davenport sunk a deep three to give Converse the lead back, a lead that they would hold the rest of the quarter.
Starting the final quarter down 41-39, St. Augustine's started the quarter with a jumper to tie the game up, yet again. A Perry three-pointer gave the Valkyries the 46-45 lead, but the Falcons went on a ten-point run to be up 55-47. Converse would not be unable to regain a lead the rest of the game as St. Augustine's won 71-55.
Perry led Converse with 14 points, three rebounds and one assist followed by Barkley who had 13 points, one rebound and three steals. Davenport contributed 11 points, one rebound and one assist, Wilson had tallied 10 points, two rebounds and four assists while Brown racked up 11 rebounds.

Converse will travel to Johnson City, Tennessee on New Year's Eve to play East Tennessee State University in an exhibition game.
