Converse Picks Up First Ever Conference Carolinas Tournament Victory

BRISTOL, TENN. – The Converse University volleyball team picked up their first ever Conference Carolinas tournament win on Saturday afternoon when they came from two sets down to defeat Lees-McRae in the opening round 3-2.

Although the Valkyries were swept in the second round by King, the Valkyries still showed a lot of fight throughout the afternoon against their two opponents. Valkyries senior setter Savannah Ducote finished her career third all-time in the Converse record books with 1,378 career assists. Meanwhile, fellow senior Jasmine Finkley ended her career with a career hitting percentage of .285 which ranks second all-time in program history. Finkley also concludes her career with 752 career kills (6^th all-time) and 255 career blocks (3^rd all-time).

Round One: #5 Converse 3, #4 Lees-McRae 2

Converse recorded double-digit kills in every set and hit .165 for the match as a team.
The Valkyries recorded 75 points, 65 kills, 5 aces, 5 blocks, 59 assists and 92 digs in the match.
Jasmine Finkley led the team with 13 kills, Anna Rabon and Megan Carpenter tied for the team lead with 12 kills and Evelyn Fitz recorded 11 kills in the win.
Fitz and Savannah Ducote both recorded double-doubles in the victory, with Ducote posting a team high 27 assists in the win over the Bobcats.
Mackenzie Day recorded a team high 27 digs in the win as Mackenzie Schmucker finished second on the team with 11 assists.
Lees-McRae recorded double-digit kills in four of the five sets and hit .125 for the match.
The Bobcats recorded 72 points, 54 kills, 7 aces, 11 blocks, 51 assists and 85 digs.
Sydney Stigler led the team with an 18 kill and 15 dig performance against the Valkyries. Julia Emore posted a triple-double with 10 kills, 19 assists and 13 digs.
Madison Goins led the Bobcats with 23 assists and Bre Adamson posted a team best 27 digs in the loss to Converse.

Round Two: #5 Converse 0, #3 King 3

In the second match of the day for Converse, the Valkyries recorded double-digit kills in the final two sets of the match and posted a .094 hitting percentage.
The Valkyries recorded 42 points, 34 kills, 5 aces, 3 blocks, 30 assists and 64 digs in the loss.
Jasmine Finkley led the team with 9 kills, Evelyn Fitz and Megan Carpenter both contributed 7 kills in the loss.
Savannah Ducote led the team with 14 assists, while Madison Gregory finished second on the team with 13 assists against the Tornado. Mackenzie Day recorded a team high 22 digs, Evelyn Fitz added 16 digs and Ducote completed her second double-double of the day with 11 digs.
