TIGERVILLE, S.C. – The Converse Valkyries women's basketball team drops a close contest on the road to North Greenville on Tuesday night by a score of 74-67.
Converse (3-12, 2-10 Conference Carolinas) would trade points with North Greenville (4-12, 4-8 Conference Carolinas) throughout the entirety of the game. After being all tied up at 37 points at halftime, the Valkyries were never able to regain a lead after the third quarter.
First Quarter:
- North Greenville won the jump ball and immediately made a layup, putting them up on the board first.
- Alliee Pattillo for Converse would answer, making a three-pointer from the corner.
- A bad inbound pass from the Crusaders would allow Zahra Cross to hit an easy three for the Valkyries, giving them the lead of 11-8.
- Lindsey Hardin led Converse with 5 points during the first quarter, contributing to the Valkyries only being down by 1 point going into the second quarter.
Second Quarter:
- Starting the second quarter with a lead of 21-20, North Greenville's Tolisha Walker would score the first points of the quarter.
- Ayanna Parker's layup for Converse would give them the lead before Abi Oates tied the game up at 25.
- Morgan Vulpis would end a 3-minute scoring drought on both sides of the ball, giving the Crusaders the lead of 28-25.
- A three-pointer from Parker late in the quarter would tie the game up again at 35 points.
- A jumper from the Valkyries and a layup from the Crusaders would send each team into halftime with 37 points.
Third Quarter:
- North Greenville would start the second half with the ball, scoring the first points of the third quarter.
- A Crusader turnover would result in a fast-break layup by Jordan Brown to give the Valkyries a 5-point lead of 48-43.
- A quarter where the score went back-and-forth, North Greenville will have the lead of 54-52 to start the fourth quarter.
Fourth Quarter:
- A Daven West layup would give the Valkyries the first points of the fourth quarter.
- Converse would call a timeout with 7:16 remaining in the quarter to figure out a way to regain their lead back while being down by 4 points.
- The Valkyries would once again call a timeout, being down by 4 points, this time the score 64-60.
- A technical foul called on Walker would give Converse an opportunity to close in on the lead. Cross would shoot the free-throws for the Valkyries, sinking both of them and making the score 67-65.
- The Valkyries, unable to make up ground, would drop the contest 74-67.
Cross led Converse in points, contributing 20 points on the night to the close loss. Hardin was second on the team with 12 points. Brown led Converse in assists with 4 on the night. Brown also had 4 rebounds during the game along with Cross and
Sydney Wilson who each had 4 rebounds as well.
Vulpis led the Crusaders in points with 13 points on the night, shooting 80 percent from the field. Luttrell came in at a close second with 12 points. Walker had 10 rebounds during the game followed by Zahria Jenkins who had 7 rebounds.

The Valkyries women's basketball team will be back in action this Thursday, January 27 as they travel to Banner Elk, N.C. for a game against Lees-McRae at 5:00 p.m.
