The Series:
This will be the first ever meeting between Converse University and Belmont Abbey. For head coach Ryan Saunders this will be his first trip back to the Wheeler Center as an opposing coach. Saunders coached at Belmont Abbey for five seasons before taking the Converse head coaching position.   
 
Converse Notes:
  • Converse is 5-7 overall and 4-4 in Conference Carolinas action this season.
  • The Valkyries are coming off a thrilling 68-67 win over Chowan. Sigurd Lorange led the Valkyries with 20-point, 5-assist effort and scored the game-winning basket over the Hawks. Freshman Earl Burgess III scored a career high 19-points and recorded a trio of blocks in the match.  
  • The Valkyries are averaging 69.1 points per game and they are shooting 39 percent from the field. Converse is shooting 28 percent from beyond the arch and 74 percent from the free throw line.
  • Converse is averaging 34.0 rebounds per game, 14.2 assists per game, 6.8 steals per game and 4.3 blocks per game.
  • Lorange leads the team with 14.8 points per game and has a team best 18 steals. The native of Norway is second on the team with 36 assists this season. Sanders III is second on the team in points per game with 13.3, but leads the team with 53 assists.
  • Pitts is third on the team in points per game with 9.6 and is tied for first in total steals with 18 on the season. The freshman leads the team with 80 total rebounds this season. Earl Burgess III leads the team with 28 total blocks this season.
 
Belmont Abbey Notes:
  • Belmont Abbey is 5-6 overall and 3-4 in Conference Carolinas play this season.
  • The Crusaders first three games of the spring semester have been postponed. The last time Belmont Abbey played in a match it was a 71-62 loss to UNC Pembroke.
  • Belmont Abbey is currently riding a three-match losing streak dating back to a December 11th overtime loss to Emmanuel.
  • The Crusaders are averaging 75.5 points per game and they are shooting 51 percent from the field. The Crusaders are shooting 39 percent from three-point range and 62 percent from the free throw line.
  • Belmont Abbey is averaging 37.2 rebounds per game, 12.0 assists per game, 8.3 steals per game and 4.1 blocks per game.
  • Four players are averaging in double-figures for the Crusaders this season. Sean Halloran (15.5 ppg), Mario Lacy Jr., (11.3 ppg), Chandler Baker (10.5 ppg) and Quest Aldridge (10.5 ppg).
  • Lacy Jr., leads the team with 97 total rebounds and 10 blocked shots, while Halloran leads the team with 49 total assists and 24 steals.
