AIKEN, S.C. – The Converse University volleyball team opened up the 2021 season with a challenging slate of games at the USC Aiken Invitational this past weekend.
Game One: USC Aiken 3, Converse 0
- Kiara Cannon led the team with five kills, Anna Rabon added four kills and Jasmine Finkley recorded a trio of kills.
- Rabon led the team with a pair of aces, while Madison Gregory and Elizabeth Yohe each recorded an ace.
- Finkley recorded a team best five blocks and Cannon added a trio of blocks in the loss.
- Gregory led the team with nine assists and Savannah Ducote contributed five assists in the loss.
- Yohe led the team with 17 digs, Rabon added seven digs and Gregory had six.
- Alie Smith led the Pacers with 10 kills and three assists. Smith finished with a double-double with 10 kills and 12 digs.
- Alisha Pitts led USC Aiken with four total blocks, while Caroline Foster posted 22 assists and Kari Mercer had 26 digs.
Game Two: Lincoln Memorial 3, Converse 2
- Converse won the opening two sets against Lincoln Memorial, 25-23 and 27-25.
- The Valkyries offense was on fire in the second set as they hit a season best .415 and recorded 18 kills.
- The Valkyries led the game in total blocks (5) and service aces (13).
- Rabon and Gregory posted the first double-doubles of the season for the Valkyries. Rabon led the team with 13 kills and finished with 13 digs. Gregory led the team with 32 assists and tied for the team lead with 16 digs.
- Cannon finished second on the team with 12 kills and in total blocks (2). Yohe tied for the team lead with 16 digs and finished second on the team in service aces (3) and assists (5).
- Abbey Ray finished third on the team with eight kills and Ducote recorded three assists.
- Lincoln Memorial had three players finish with double-digit kills, Katie Cardenas (16), Gabriela Abreu (11) and Richlyn Ross (11).
- Both Cardenas and Abreu finished with double-doubles, Cardens had 16 kills and 17 digs while also posting seven aces. Abreu had 11 kills and 19 digs.
- Emily Walter's posted 37 assists and Karen Morris led the Railsplitters with 20 digs.
Game Three: Carson-Newman 3, Converse 1
- Won the third set 25-23 and out blocked Carson-Newman 9-5.
- Anna Rabon posted her second double-double of the weekend with a 10 kill, 11 dig performance.
- Maddie Mount and Kiara Cannon each had eight kills in the match.
- Abbey Ray led the blocking effort up front with four blocks.
- Savannah Ducote and Madison Gregory each had 15 assists in the loss. Elizabeth Yohe posted a team best 21 digs.
- Blake Cherry posted a double-double with a 10 kill, 14 dig performance. Abigail Hildenbrand posted a double-double with a 39 assist, 10 dig performance.
- Julia Wheeler led the team with 17 kills, Abigail Hildenbrand led the team with 39 assists and Hayden Barton recorded a team best 24 digs.
Game Four: Embry-Riddle 3, Converse 0
- No official stats were kept during this game
Next Up:
Converse will have almost a week off before they head back down to Aiken to compete in the Pacer Invitational. The Valkyries will have matches against Coker, Limestone, Augusta and Lander.
