Mount Olive, NC- Toughness, grit and an exuberance for the game has been the standard for this version of the Converse Volleyball team and that was no different this afternoon. Faced with a tough task of playing on the road in the postseason, the Valkyries would make their presence felt early. They jumped out to a 1-0 set lead after a dominant 25-19 win. That momentum would carry over into the second set as well as they were out to a large lead. Mount Olive was able to reel back some of the momentum for the match as they struck quickly towin the set and tie the match. The Trojans would go on to win set 3 as well, posing the Valkyries with a hole to climb out of. The Valkyries would head into set 4 and fall behind early, eventually seeing the deficit at 24-18. A rally led largely by
Mackenzie Day's service aces brought the Valkyries back to within 1 at 24-23. Camryn Huber would end the comeback charge for the Valkyries as she scored the final point to carry the Trojans through to the next round. This loss ended the Valkyries season but left Head Coach
Amy Bomar with a glimpse of what the future could hold for this promising Valkyrie team.
"This was a tough loss for us today. With a big lead in both the 2nd and 3rd sets, it is heartbreaking for this team that we could not pull out the win. As a coach, I am proud of this team for giving it their all. It's never easy playing on the road, but they never gave up. We've had a great season and I am excited to build off of this for next fall." -
