Softball Drops Doubleheader to Limestone

SPARTANBURG, SC - The Converse College Softball team returned to their home field at Tyger River Stadium to take on the Limestone Saints. The Valkyries dropped two games to their former conference opponent by scores of 8-0 and 8-1.

In game one, junior Savannah Rodgers started in the circle for the Valkyries. The Saints offense generated seven hits and eight runs in the first inning, but they would remain scoreless for the duration of the game. Daija Irizarry pitched four innings facing 19 batters with three strikeouts and zero earned runs. The Valkyries' offense struggled to gain momentum. Sophomore Grace McKinney reached 1st base after being hit with a pitch, but was caught stealing later that inning. The Valkyries dropped game one 8-0 in five innings.

For game two, sophomore Reagan Owens was on the mound for the Valkyries. The Valkyries held the Saints to two runs in the first inning. Brooklyn McElrath led the Valkyrie offense with a two-hit game. In the 4th inning, McElrath, a junior, hit a double to right center field. Grace McKinney hit a single, scoring McElrath. Allison Plafcan earned 1 hit. Dallas Singleton, Maria Luce, and Kayla Rocha all reached first base on a hit by pitch. Singleton and Rocha each stole a base. The Valkyries dropped game two 8-1 in seven innings.

The Valkyries have a quick turnaround, as they return to the field to take on the Saints on March 6 in Gaffney, SC. The first pitch is slated for 1 p.m.
