Newberry, SC- Making their first program appearance in the postseason, the Valkyrie Field Hockey team left everything they had out on the field. The moment never seemed to big for this team as they went toe to toe with a Newberry squad who boasted a 5-2 record on the year and had not been beaten at home. The Valkyries got a stellar performance in goal from Ciriacca Petitto who recorded 11 saves in 57 minutes of action.
Elizabeth Wypych put the Valkyries on the board off an assist from
Mira Polzer in the 4th period and it would seem that the Valkyries may escape Newberry with a resounding win. The Wolves would not quit and they were able to strike with just over two minutes left in regulation to bring the game to a tie. The two teams would continue to play to a tie through the end of regulation and end of the first overtime. Newberry would get the game winning goal in the 2nd period of overtime with 2 minutes left to go before the game would have come to a shootout.
This game ends the Valkyrie's season but they will look to take this momentum into the offseason as they build into next year.
