Spartanburg, SC- A drama filled battle broke out this afternoon between the visiting Cobras and the home standing Valkyries as the two teams battled through regulation and two extra periods before finally settling the score in a penalty shootout, 2-1. The Valkyries out-shot Coker 13-6 including 8 of those on goal but Coker would get a strong afternoon in the net from Kelsey Gibbons to keep the Valkyries at bay. Converse was also strong defensively for the second straight outing as they limited Coker to just 3 shots on goal all afternoon. A goal from Rylie Cordrey got the Cobras on the board in the first period but the Valkyries quickly answered as
Mira Polzer was able to find the back of the net off a great find from Daija Kreygier. The two teams would be locked in a stalemate for the remainder of the game and head to a shootout. Unfortunately, Coker outscored Converse 3-1 in the shootout to take the hard fought victory.
The Valkyries will take the field again next Saturday as they welcome Belmont Abbey to Spartanburg for a 2:00 PM start.
