SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Converse University men's basketball team fell 83-42 to Southern Wesleyan on Friday evening in the Weisiger Center.
Southern Wesleyan won the opening tip-off and began the game on a 6-0 run.
Earl Burgess III (Spartanburg, S.C.) slammed the ball through the net for the Valkyries first points of the match. The dunk by Burgess III ended up being the Valkyries last made field goal for nearly 15-minutes of game time. Over that time span the Warriors opened the game on a 30-5 run against the Valkyries.
Jimmie Sanders III (Dallas, Texas) ended the Valkyries field goal drought with a jumper at the 4:24 mark of the half. Converse ended the half on an 11-5 run and the defense came away with a trio of blocks against the Warriors.
The second half did not get much better for Converse as Southern Wesleyan opened the half on a 9-3 run. The Valkyries were unable to close the gap in the second half and both teams emptied the benches with four-minutes remaining in the game.
Burgess III finished the game with a team high 14-points and finished second on the team with six rebounds. Sanders III finished second on the team with 7-points and Eli Pitts added 6-points and a team high 7-rebounds.

The Valkyries will be back in action tomorrow afternoon against North Greenville, tip-off is set for a 4:00 p.m. start time.
