MOUNT OLIVE, N.C. – For the first time in 28 days the Converse University field hockey team is leaving the field with a 2-1 loss as they fell to Mount Olive on Saturday afternoon.
The loss ends a seven-game winning streak by the Valkyries dating back to the opening weekend of October. The loss also ended a three-game winning streak against the Trojans dating back to the 2019 season.
The two teams played a scoreless first half despite the Valkyries outshooting the Trojans 9-6. Both teams had opportunities to score with Converse taking six penalty corners and Mount Olive taking five corners in the first half of action. In the 10

Samantha White was given a green card, while Railyn King was given a yellow card five minutes later for Mount Olive.
In the 37
th minute of the game Annefleur Moerkerken found Alisia Lovejoy for the first goal of the match. Less than a minute later Moerkerken scored a goal of her own to give Mount Olive a 2-0 advantage late in the third quarter. In the 48

Catalina Pistaccio scored the Valkyries only goal of the match.
Lotte Kanters led the Valkyries offense with five total shots and three shots on goal. Pistaccio recorded four total shots and four shots on goal to finish second on the team.
Ciriaca Petitto led the team with four saves, while
Kathryn Daniels added a pair of saves in the fourth quarter.

The Valkyries will be back in action on Friday afternoon at Fulp Field as they host South Atlantic Conference Championships. Converse will find out their opponent later in the week.
