TIGERVILLE, S.C. – The Converse University volleyball team fell 3-1 on Thursday evening to North Greenville University in front of a small crowd of Crusader supporters at Hayes Gymnasium.
In the first set the two teams seemed evenly matched as both sides split the first 12-points of the set. A 4-0 run by North Greenville put the Crusaders ahead 10-6 and moments later North Greenville led 17-8. The Valkyries earned a few more points before falling by a final score of 25-13 in the opening stanza.
Trailing 10-5 in the second set the Valkyries appeared to be on their way to another set loss, but the Valkyries battled their way back and tied the set at 12-12. A four-point swing in the Valkyries favor gave Converse a 16-13 lead over the Crusaders. Despite a late run by North Greenville, the Valkyries held on for a second set victory 25-19.
In the third set the Crusaders jumped out to an 11-1 lead and never looked back as the won the third set 25-10. In the fourth set the Valkyries found themselves in a 9-2 hole, despite the Valkyries best efforts they fell 25-12 in the final period of play.
Freshman
Anna Rabon led the team with eight kills,
Jasmine Finkley finished second on the team with five kills and
Kiara Cannon added four kills in the loss. Finkley led the team with five blocks, while
Savannah Ducote and
Madison Gregory tied for the team lead with 10 assists in the contest.
Elizabeth Yohe led the team with seven digs and Rabon added six digs in the loss to North Greenville.
Next Up:
Converse will be back in action tomorrow night against Lees-McRae. The game is scheduled for a 6:00 p.m. start time inside the Weisiger Center.
