Wilson, NC – Coming off two straight Conference Carolinas victories, the Converse College Women's Basketball team was looking to carry that momentum into Wilson, NC as they faced Barton College. This was their second road game in three days, but they were not going to let stand in their way. They knew this would be a tough test, as Barton came into the game with a record of 5-1, and on a 3-game win streak. However, the Valkyries would look to end the Lady Bulldogs streak, behind solid shooting and aggressive defense.
Barton took possession off of the jump ball, as the first quarter began, however they were unable to convert on a layup.
Lindsey Hardin took advantage of that and took an assist from
Tierney Porter, to put Converse up early, 2-0. The duo would repeat that on their next possession and were able to extend the lead to 4. A Barton 3-pointer trimmed the lead to 4-3, but baskets by
Keyshuna Fair and
Tierney Porter helped the Valkyries go up by 5 points, 8-3. Unfortunately, the Lady Bulldogs would go on a 10-0 run and end the quarter leading 13-8.
As the second quarter began,
Sierra Davenport would make two free throws, while Tierney Porte hit a layup and suddenly the Valkyries pulled within 1, 13-12. They then were able to regain the lead on a
Lindsey Hardin 3-pointer. After Barton answered, a basket from
Keyshuna Fair would put Converse up 17-15. However, the Lady Bulldogs were able to put together a 14-0 run, to take a 12 point lead, 29-17.
Keyshuna Fair and
Jordan Brown were able to help trim the lead to 10 ad that is where it would stay as the half come to an end, with the Lady Bulldogs leading by a score of 33-23.
Barton began the third quarter with another run, this time outscoring the Valkyries 12-2 in the first two minutes.
Keyshuna Fair tried to cut into the lead with a 2-ponit field and a 3-pointer, but the Lady Bulldogs continued to score. Eventually, Converse would find themselves down by points, 50-30. Fair was able to convert a 3-point play, in addition to 2 free throws and a layup, however, Baton would end the quarter with a comfortable 65-42 lead.
At the start of the fourth quarter, layups by
Jordan Brown and
Eva Carballo and a 3-pointer from Alliee Patillo started some momentum for the Valkyries, but that would be all they could do. The Lady Bulldogs continued to pull away and at the 5:11 mark of the quarter, found themselves up by 26 points, 77-51. Converse would only score 2 more points in the game, as Barton was able to connect on a number of their shot attempts, giving them a 36-point win, 91-55.
Once again, the Valkyries were led in scoring by
Keyshuna Fair, who finished with 18 points and 8 rebounds. She was followed by Lindsey Harden who added 11 points, 3 rebounds and 1 blocked shot and
