HOW IT HAPPENED

First Quarter

Barton controlled the contest early, jumping out to a quick 7-2 lead, but a three from Hardin pulled the Valkyries to within two with 5:43 remaining in the opening quarter. However, the Bulldogs reeled off nine in a row to push ahead by double-digits (16-5).

Dominique Hill made one of two from the free throw line followed by a three-pointer from Ellen Nardella, trimming the deficit to 16-9 after one quarter of play.

Second Quarter

Nardella opened the second quarter knocking down her second three in as many tries, allowing the Valkyries to inch closer at 16-12. From that point the two teams traded the next eight points, but Barton took complete control after finishing the half on a 17-7 run, taking a 37-23 lead into halftime.

Third Quarter

That lead ballooned to 21 (44-23) as Barton opened the second half scoring seven in a row. McMillian connected on a layup to stop the run, but a 19-5 burst over the quarter's final seven-plus minutes gave the Bulldogs their biggest lead (63-30) heading into the final period.

Fourth Quarter

Converse put together a valiant effort in the fourth, outscoring the Bulldogs by the total of 17-9. Several bench players were able to contribute to the scoring during the final 10 minutes, with Nardella leading the way after pouring in eight overall. However, the deficit was too much to overcome as Barton earned the 72-47 win.

UP NEXT

Converse will continue its three-game road trip with a stop in Franklin Springs, Ga. on Saturday, January 18, facing off against the Emmanuel Lions. Tipoff for that contest is scheduled for 2 p.m.
