HOW IT HAPPENED

FIRST QUARTER

Both teams were almost scoreless for the first full three minutes of the game until the Trojans hit a three-point shot. Davis quickly responded for the Purple and Gold by making a layup and was fouled on the play. The made free throw tied the score of the competition (3-3).

The rest of the quarter saw points scored for the Vals by Davis on a jumpshot, and a free throw by McMillian. Mount Olive outscored Converse 11-6.

SECOND QUARTER

Both teams opened the second quarter in the same fashion. The Trojans hit a three and Davis replied shortly after for the Valkyries with a layup and another foul on the play. The free throw attempt was good and brought the score to 14-9.

Converse held off Mount Olive for four minutes and came within two on a jumpshot made by Davis and a free throw by McMillian (14-12). For the rest of the quarter the Vals saw a jumpshot by Anna King (Summerville, S.C.) and a three pointer by Ellen Nardella (Myrtle Beach, S.C.). The Trojans held the lead going into half-time, 30-17.

THIRD QUARTER

Mount Olive started the second-half with a quick layup and the Lewis for the Purple and Gold responded a minute later with a layup (32-19).

A minute later Davis was fouled on a layup and went one for two from the line (32-20). Converse's remaining four points of the quarter were scored by McMillian on a layup and a jumpshot. The Trojans were up on the Vals 44-24 by the end of the quarter.

FOURTH QUARTER

McMillian continued her scoring for the Valkyries and opened the quarter with a jumpshot (44-26). Mount Olive quickly responded with a layup and brought the score to 46-26.

With shots made by Lewis, McMillian, Nardella, and freshman Ivy Collins (Myrtle Beach, S.C.), the Purple and Gold couldn't pull out the win and fell to the Trojans 59-42.
