Valkyries Fall to North Greenville in Conference Matchup

Box Score

TIGERVILLE, S.C. - The Converse Volleyball Team (3-14) was unable to find their groove as the Valkyries were swept in straight sets in a Conference Carolinas matchup at North Greenville University (10-8) on Friday evening at Hayes Gymnasium.

The Crusaders took the first three points of the opening set and the Valkyries spent the remainder of the match trying to stay in the game. A four point run later in the set put North Greenville ahead 10-5 and a five point spurt secured the 25-16 victory for the Crusaders.

NGU took off in the second set using three and four point runs to go ahead 9-3. The Purple and Gold struggled to keep up and eventually suffered a 25-13 loss.

Even exchanges of the first few points of the third set put the Valkyries in good position and Converse took their first lead of the game, 4-3. However, a six point burst from the Crusaders was too much for the Vals to make-up and NGU walked away with the 25-16 win.

Sydney Allen led Converse with 13 digs followed by Morgan Pearson with seven. Lauren Tharrington also recorded nine assists on the night. A trio of Valkyries led the way offensively with four kills each.

The Valkyries will be back on the court on Saturday, September 29 as they travel to Central, S.C. to take on Southern Wesleyan University. The first serve is scheduled for 1 p.m.
